August 13, 2026
Anyone who showed up to Kings Beach State Recreation Area at 6:30pm on August 7 found an empty stage. No band, no folding chairs staked out on the sand, no line at the Alibi Ale Works tap. For a summer that had delivered a free concert almost every single Friday since June 19, that gap stood out. The published schedule lists August 7 as a dark Friday, and the Concours show took place on the West Shore that weekend.
Beginning June 19, concerts are scheduled nearly every Friday, except July 3 and August 7, through September 4, 2026, starting at 6:30 p.m. The two dark Fridays are July 3 and August 7; the Concours show took place on the West Shore August 7 and 8.
The Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance docked on the shores of Lake Tahoe for a two-day antique wooden boat show on August 7 and 8, 2026, now in its 52nd year, displaying over 60 preserved vintage wooden boats. The show's home base is Obexer's Boat Company, which sits on the West Shore in Homewood, a solid 25-minute drive south of Kings Beach.
The Concours weekend included a North Shore event in Carnelian Bay before the show on the West Shore.
The Concours Kickoff Dinner, known as the Gala, took place Thursday, August 6th, at Gar Woods Pier & Grill in Carnelian Bay, limited to 120 guests. Before a single hull was judged in Homewood, the people who own those boats gathered at a restaurant most locals know for something else entirely.
Gar Woods is a waterfront restaurant with floor to ceiling windows, a large deck and private dining rooms, and views of Lake Tahoe, and it's still the place where servers pour the Wet Woody, Gar Woods' own signature blended cocktail, with a sunset view in the background. For one night in early August, that deck filled with the kind of money that keeps a 1948 Chris-Craft running, before it all motored south the next morning.
The Concours has a long history on the North Shore. The first Concours gathered at Chambers Landing in 1972, then moved to Tahoe City's Tahoe Boat Company in 1976, then to Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay in 1993. The show was held on the North Shore for more than two decades.
In 2014, Concours returned to the West Shore, which it calls the birthplace of wooden pleasure boating on Lake Tahoe, and now calls Obexer's Boat Company home. The show left the North Shore; its 2026 kickoff dinner took place at Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay on August 6.
By August 14, the beach reclaims its Friday. The 20th season of Music on the Beach continues its full lineup of live performances, and Kings Beach State Recreation Area remains the largest sandy expanse of public beach on Lake Tahoe's North Shore, which is part of why the series still draws a crowd even after two decades.
Here's the schedule through Labor Day:
| Friday | Act | Food Vendors |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 14 | Lineup TBA | Check the board at the beach entrance |
| Aug 21 | Lineup TBA | Check the board at the beach entrance |
| Aug 28 | Everyday Outlaw | Mountain Lotus Provisions, The Salty Twist, Açaí You |
| Sept 4 | The Sextones | EATS Cooking Co., Lumbre, Dulce Gula |
Everyday Outlaw is a five-piece outlaw country band from Truckee, channeling classic 1970s honky-tonk with a modern Sierra twist. The Sextones built a devoted West Coast following before gaining international attention with their debut album Moonlight Vision. Both close out a run that pours craft beer from Alibi Ale Works and wine from Truckee River Winery from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with Kings Beach District Manager Darcy Parrillo telling the Sierra Sun it is "a signature event series in Kings Beach for 20 years."
If you're driving, plan for it. The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition offers a free, secure bike valet for each event, making it easy to ride instead of drive, and no outside alcohol or pets are allowed once you're on the sand.
The beach isn't the only thing running on a schedule that outsiders never notice. The Tahoe Paddle Racing Series runs the Paddle Jam in Carnelian Bay each June, the Downwind Championship in Carnelian Bay each August, and the Tahoe Cup Lake Crossing in Carnelian Bay each September. All three launch from the same stretch of shoreline at Waterman's Landing.
The numbers on the September race are worth sitting with. The Tahoe Cup Lake Crossing runs September 18 through 20, 2026, as a 22-mile point-to-point course across Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe itself measures 22 miles long. The paddlers aren't racing across a section of the lake. They're racing its entire length, start to finish, in a single push.
That's not the only oar-powered tradition that just wrapped up. The 26th annual North Tahoe Regatta took place August 9th in Tahoe Vista, one day after the wooden boats packed up in Homewood. Two boat cultures, one weekend, both anchored to this shoreline even when the marquee event borrows a different one.
None of this happens on an empty stomach. The spots that fill in between events tend to be the ones locals already have on rotation rather than whatever ranks first in a search result.
None of these require a reservation booked weeks out. They require knowing they're there, which is the whole point of living somewhere instead of visiting it.
The North Shore runs on two calendars stacked on top of each other. One is public, free, and anchored to a sandy stretch of beach in Kings Beach that's hosted the same Friday-night tradition for twenty summers. The other is smaller, older, and tied to a wooden-boat culture that once called Carnelian Bay home before the marquee event moved south in 2014. The Concours' 2026 kickoff dinner took place in Carnelian Bay.
In 2026, the concert schedule lists August 7 as a dark Friday, while the Concours show was held in Homewood on August 7 and 8.
If you're the kind of person who tracks those two calendars, the Concours is one example of summer traditions that connect several shoreline communities. Different scale, same lake.
If questions about a specific pocket of the North Shore come up, from Kings Beach to Carnelian Bay to the quieter corners in between, Jeremy Jacobson has spent 25 years tracking exactly this kind of detail. Let's Connect.
